Why Choose SA-179 as the Base Tube?
-
Optimal Pressure & Temperature Rating
Debutanizer overhead condensers typically operate under low-to-medium pressure conditions (~1.0–1.8 MPa with process temperatures around 40°C–120°C). ASTM A179 / ASME SA-179 cold-drawn seamless low-carbon steel tubes deliver exceptional pressure resistance and mechanical strength perfectly calibrated for this operating window.
-
Superior Cold Workability & Toughness
With its refined grain structure and high ductility, SA-179 withstands intense mechanical stress during the bimetallic co-extrusion process. This guarantees a tight, gap-free mechanical bond between the base tube and the aluminum sleeve without structural deformation.
Why Choose the Extruded (Bimetallic) Type?
-
100% Full Outer Corrosion Protection
In debutanizer overhead air coolers, hydrocarbon mixtures flow inside the tubes while ambient air provides external cooling. The outer aluminum sleeve (typically Al 1060 / Al 1100) completely encapsulates the SA-179 carbon steel base tube—blocking atmospheric moisture, rain, and corrosive industrial environments to eliminate outer wall pitting.
-
Low Thermal Contact Resistance & High Heat Transfer
The rotary extrusion manufacturing process creates an extraordinarily tight mechanical bond between the aluminum muff and the steel tube, resulting in near-zero contact thermal resistance. The fins remain permanently locked in place, even under severe fan vibration and repeated thermal cycling.
-
Easy Cleaning & Maintenance
Extruded fins feature smooth surfaces and high structural rigidity. When dust or particulates accumulate in petrochemical plant environments, the fins can be directly washed with high-pressure water jets or steam without bending, folding, or damage.
SA-179 Extruded Finned Tubes for Debutanizer Condenser Application Notes
Internal Tube-Side Corrosion Protection:
If the debutanizer overhead distillate contains trace amounts of H2S or moisture, the risk of wet H2S stress cracking for SA-179 carbon steel must be evaluated. In more severe corrosive environments, consider adding wet sour service testing (such as NACE MR0175 requirements) or selecting a high-alloy base tube.
Bare End Protection (Stripping / Capping):
To prevent the exposed SA-179 base tube at both ends near the tube sheet from rusting in the air, the bare steel section after aluminum fin stripping should be coated with anti-rust paint or protected via metallizing processes such as galvanizing or aluminum spraying.
Matching Accessories:
Tube support boxes, clamps, or spacer boxes can be provided upon request (materials available in aluminum, zinc, or stainless steel).
SA-179 Extruded Finned Tubes Applications
Beyond debutanizer condensers, SA-179 Extruded Finned Tubes are also widely used in the following fields:
-
Air-Cooled Systems: Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers (ACHE) and Fin Fan Coolers / Air Fin Coolers.
-
Petrochemical & Power Generation: Compressor coolers, radiator coolers, steam turbine exhaust condensers, fossil fuel and nuclear power plant equipment.
-
Other Heat Transfer Equipment: Evaporators, heater components, and related thermal systems.
